Pray the News #2 – Prayer Spaces - 17/07/2018

As part of the second phase of launching Prayer Spaces around University Church of England Academy, there was a follow-up to the initial ‘Pray The News’ event where students felt that they wanted another opportunity to engage with current news and explore how prayer can be linked to this. Each individual student was invited to place a post-it note on a news item of interest and then there would be an opportunity for prayer.  Students were encouraged to think about prayer as a means by which situations can be changed for the better.

This event is part of a rolling programme where Prayer Spaces will be an integral part of the spiritual life of the University Church of England Academy and these will be placed at various points around the school. Students and staff will be encouraged to consider and reflect upon the core values of Believe, Belong, Become and the distinctive Christian atmospheres of Hope, Trust and Peace.

Mr Anderson, Chaplain at University Church of England Academy remarked: “The feedback from students again has been really positive and it was encouraging to witness how members of staff also engaged with this Prayer Space. The Bible says that ‘the prayers of righteous people avails much.’(James 5:16) Prayer in this way can be a powerful vehicle for positive change in our world on all levels.”

Site Manager, Philip Radford added, “It struck a chord with many students and the relevancy of the news items was most apparent. It was highly relevant to what we hear and see in the daily news on our screens or read in newspapers.”
