University Church of England Academy (Ellesmere Port) to be re-brokered. - 26/06/2018

Following recent discussions between the University of Chester Academies Trust (UCAT), the Department for Education (DfE), and the Secretary of State, it has been agreed to transfer the University Church of England Academy (Ellesmere Port) from UCAT to another trust.

Whilst all acknowledge that improvements have been made, progress since the last Ofsted inspection has not been felt to be swift enough or sustainable over a longer period. However, only last week, UCEA reached the finals in four of the 10 categories in the 2018 Trinity Mirror Cheshire Schools Awards, winning Team of the Year (for its work with the University of Chester), and being runners up for Secondary School of the Year, School in the Community and Support Staff of the Year. In addition, this year saw the very first student obtain a place at Oxford or Cambridge from either UCEA or its predecessor schools.

The Trust is keen to work with the DfE to ensure the best solution to secure rapid and sustained school improvement and to assure the future success of the Academy.  The Trust, which has recently reconfigured its Board, will continue to support and challenge UCEA during the transitional process and will keep parents, staff and the community informed of developments as they take place.

Newly appointed Chair of UCAT, David Wootton, said: “The overriding focus for the new Board is to do what is best to improve the education and life chances for all children in the school and to support local communities.”
