UCEA celebrate World Book Day 2018 - 12/03/2018

The iReadCentre (Academy Library) recently ran a number of lunchtime activities throughout the week to celebrate World Book Day 2018, including a range of exciting games, quizzes and competitions.

The main event of the week took place on World Book Day, Thursday 1st March, where students from Years 7 and 8 were competing in the Book Title Treasure Hunt. Students were searching round school to find all 40 members of staff who were wearing badges with the titles of famous books written on them. The first two students to find all 40 badges were Peter Herridge of Year 8 and Corey Jones of Year 7 and they each won a set of 10 Diary of a Wimpy Kid books! There were 6 runner-up prizes for Mary Berry, Chloe Fletcher, Katy Ward, James Colecliffe and Sabina Timboli, all from Year 7 and Ryden Owen of Year 8.

Mrs Jones, Academy Librarian, said: “World Book Day is always a great excuse to have fun while promoting reading. This year was a particularly lively affair and it was wonderful to see the enthusiasm of all the students who took part in the games and competitions and those who borrowed books from the 100 new books that were on display!”

Bethany jacks, in Year 7, added: “I really enjoyed going round school and finding each teacher with a badge and recognising the names of books that I like – I had a lot of fun that day!”
